You make your way out into the muddy courtyard, the militia continuing their training to the barking shouts of their spearmasters. A fine drizzle continues to fall as lepics perch themselves upon crates and barrels watching the soldiers train. Keeping to the narrow gravel paths, you make your way to the busy eastern gate. Korl drive carts of galot, their hunter drivers making their way to the butchers. Hearing the bell mark the hour you look to the sky - it is still an hour before mid-day.

Upon reaching the gate, the guards bow as you pass. It takes a moment to spot the priest-robed figure lingering by a well-worn boulder near the gate. Spear in hand, he strides purposefully towards the group. Drawing his hood back, you see a young man, perhaps in his early twenties, trying to hold on to some sense of decorum though patience has clearly fled in his eyes. He seems a little surprised to see more people than he was expecting…

“Masters.” The priest bows quickly, but politely.

“My name is Tileman, and if you’ll excuse me good sirs,” looking to Ulgar and Eyrk, “I have been ordered by Megin Aurman of the Steinn to escort Megin Shane and Master Vigrid to the Steinn.”

“I can only assume the runner got lost or I did not pay the whelp enough as I have been waiting here for over an hour...”

Ulgar gives the priest the proper greeting*. "My appologies megin, the messenger did gave the correct message, although I think he did take a small detour. The reason me and my friend here," pointing at Eryk, "joined Shane and Vigrid is very simple. As you probably know our presence here did not endear us to some people, and we are a bit careful about strangers trying to split us up. Especially since their is no apparent reason to invite one of the two," nodding towards Vigrid.

How do you show proper respect to a megin?

"While I am not privy to Megin Aurman's reasonings for wanting to see Master Vigrid, I knew the moment I saw him that the blood of the Alfar runs in his veins. It then suprises my not why our Megin would wish to speak with him. However, all are welcome at the Steinn of Laegar and may accompany me if you wish."

When Megins are just dealing with other Megins they'll often quote some bit of scripture in their greetings and farewells. With others, a polite bow is sufficient.

"How long will it take? Since a friend of ours also requested our presence as soon as possible, and it seems she might be or soon get into trouble."

Tileman's eyes flash angrily for a moment* and you sense he is not a man who is used to having his "requests" questioned, and does little to suppress his obvious growing irritation.

"I do not know how long my master will wish to speak with you. Megin Aurman is not given to explaining his actions to his disciples. Most would consider such an audience a rare honor. I will have you know, as you are new and clearly unaware, Aurman has been the guardian of Laegar's Steinn longer than any of you have drawn breath."

"However... if you have more pressing matters I completely understand and will gladly pass on your regrets to my master."

*Don't let Shane's even-tempered demeanor fool you into thinking all of Laegar's chosen are like him. Laegar's priests are typically as imperious and tempestuous as the god they revere... :evil

Ulgar supresses a grin, although a twinkle can be seen in his eyes. Ulgar is obviously not very impressed by the young man's irritation, and he replies in a sincere sounding voice*, "My appologies Master Tileman, but war does strange things to people. In the past couple of weeks I have been betrayed twice, once by somebody I thought I could trust with my life, and in both cases I was not even aware there were people out to kill me. Imagine how I feel when dealing with people I don't know and when I know there are assassins on my trail." Ulgar than turns towards his companions, "What do you think? It is obviously we cannot let Megin Aurman wait, but Sharvea did not request our presence for nothing."

* The appology is sincere, it is just that Ulgar finds it amusing that somebody looses his temper over something so minor. Either a short fuse, or the man is actually irritated over the fact that his master does not trust him and he does not like to be reminded about it... which is equally amusing since this whole thing is about trust ;)

Everyone looks at Shane, expecting a reply. As if focusing after some distraction, he starts, and says, "Uh, yes, it would be untoward of a Megin of Laegar not to visit a Steinn of Laegar, when one is present. I must go."

Perhaps Shane should adopt such a manner, if he is to convince anyone that he is in fact a Megin of Laegar :) .

Ulgar nods in reply to Shanes remark. "You know, there is something odd about the situation. The inn Sharvea suposedly is at is not exactly on the route to the palace from this direction. At first I assumed the messenger went to a tavern before delevering the message, but now that I think of it, that seems unlikely. There are other inns closerby. He could have met Sharvea on the road, but even that sounds unlikely. Master Tileman, you know the lay-out of this city better than I do, and you know its people better as well. Do messengers usually dally around when a megin asks them to deliver a message?"

"The more I think about it, the more I get the feeling Sharvea's might be a trap. Still, I am not about to risk her friendship. So, what do you say Eryk, shall we go to inn? How good are you in spotting ambushes? Shane, if you talk with megin Aurman, remember what we discussed this morning. He might know more..."

My whole arguments are based on an assumption of the lay-out of the city and the fact that the messenger took 1 hour to get to us. If that assumption is incorrect, and Ulgar knows it, I retract his statement.

"I've been said to have a good eye. If there's trouble, we'll deal with it."

Eryk checks his bow and quiver, setting his cloak so he can throw it back if necessary.

Okay, then the plan is for Shane and Vigrid to go see the Megin of the Steinn while Ulgar and Eyrk meet up with Sharvea and Andail at the Misty Ferryman.

Expect an update later this afternoon. :smokin

"In better days I should think not." Tileman's voice is as stone... "But alas, these are not better days. If you suspect one of these whelps is up to no good, I'd heed that inner council. Many are the eyes and ears of Lowtown sharpers and bullyboys."

The light just seems to dim a little more as the Ulgar and Eryk part ways with Shane and Vigrid. The latter pair almost getting left behind as the swift-paced Tileman strides up the winding trial to the Steinn. Soon they lose sight of the companions as they head down the mountain into the mist-shrouded Lowtown... and the Docks.

Ulgar and Eyrk's journey continues in The Misty Ferryman, Shane and Vigrid in The Steinn of Laegar. Both are now up - let me know if you have any trouble seeing the private posts.
